Dromintee Under 15’s completed the elusive and historic quadruple in the Athletic Grounds with an utterly dominant display.
The ruthless nature of the performance never allowed Keady get a foothold in the game and eventually saw Dromintee run out 0:15 to 0:04 winners.
The foundation for the victory was laid in the first half when measured and controlled possession was converted into scores to allow St Patricks build an unassailable lead.
Diarmaid O’Rourke led the way with five first half scores off left and right foot including accuracy from frees with the midfield dynamo ably assisted by Calvin Mooney who hit three points and Fionn Toale with a brace.
Dromintee led 10-1 at half time with the first Keady score arriving on the stroke of half time. Indeed had Dromintee not hit eight first half wides and the post twice the margin could have been considerably more, such was their dominance.
Keady regrouped at the break and certainly upped their performance in the second half and to their credit while always chasing the game they never gave up the fight.
In an interrupted second half through stoppages and injury breaks the game was certainly more of a contest and it took scores from Oisin Byrne, Gavin O’Rourke, Diarmaid O’Rourke(2) and a sweetly struck ‘45 from Conor Dunne to see Dromintee over the line.
The patience in possession and hard running lines of Dromintee were notable elements of the game as the boys executed a measured and well constructed game plan to ensure the championship, will rest alongside Armagh and National Feile titles and the U15 league over the winter period.
In an impressive team display the contributions of Diarmaid O’Rourke, Michael Walker, and Fionn Toale together with the industry of Fergus Toale, Conor Dunne and Keane McArdle was the foundation for the team success.
Joint captains Conor Laverty and James McBennett were the fortunate duo who received the championship trophy on a further night of celebrations for this group.
James was quick to note the immense contributions of Aidan , Kevin and the coaching team, the sponsors Tievcrom Fuels, Topline Motors, Jonesborough Stained Glass and Classic Spring Water and the role of parents and families to the success of the team.
A special note of thanks goes from our club to the minor board and officials for the manner in which the final was staged at the best of all venues and Dromintee GAC would particularly like to thank Keady Dwyer’s for the very kind words afforded our team by a Keady representative following the final whistle. It was deeply appreciated by the players and all at Dromintee .
The squad as a group have been immense all year and have now reaped rewards not enjoyed by their predecessors.
For now they return to their respective schools following a season in which they achieved so much in a manner and style that makes them all special representatives of our club.
