Dromintee 2:8 Ballyhegan Davitts 1:10
Dromintee secured a narrow victory in the first leg of the championship league group when they travelled to Ballyhegan to take on the local team.
Fielding a much stronger team to their previous outing with Dromintee Ballyhegan set about ambushing the visitors playing a tenacious & fiery brand of championship football.
The Dromintee girls had to dig deep and showed great determination in refusing to go under and the girls snatched victory from the claws of defeat when they turned around a three point deficit in a pulsating final quarter to claim the spoils by the narrowest of margins.
They had to thank the cool head of young Alannah O’Neill who steered over a 25 metre free in the final minute to claim victory as she coolly stroked over the pressure free kick to win the game. It was a brilliant last few minutes to the game when somehow Dromintee summoned reserves of energy to respond to the Ballyhegan challenge.
Championship games bring out the best in teams and the Ballyhegan effort was very commendable - but Dromintee dug deep and by doing so showed their own character in abundance.
Best for Dromintee were Emma Murtagh in goals with Cliodna Mc Coy majestic at full back and got good assistance from Tara Markey and Ciara Walker in defence while midfield kept going against older taller opponents.
Up front all girls worked hard & their fitness and resolve was there when it counted. Plenty to work upon before they take on Armagh Harps at home on the 19th July.
