Our U13's took on our neighbours Killeavy in an action packed local derby earlier this evening.
The visitors got off to the prefect start with a goal from a long ball that found its way to the back of the Dromintee net.
While the Dromintee lads played with a strong breeze in the first half, pre match nerves saw balls spilled and scoring opportunities missed during the first quarter. However the lads keep plugging away and scores from Tomas Fox, Neil Evan and Gavin O’Rourke helped to steady the ship. By the 1st water break Dromintee lead by the narrowest of margins, a single point.
With team regrouping during the 2nd water break, the lads restated 2nd quarter in a much more composed manner and while Killeavy applied pressure all over the field the speed at which the Dromintee lads moved the ball allowed gaps to appear in the opposition's defence. This was further punished with scores coming from the boot of Jarlath ONeill, Ollie Rice all of which were a well worked team efforts and supported by Ben Mc Coy and Darragh Bolger which ensured Dromintee lead by 3-07 to 1-02 at half time.
With the lads playing against a stiff breeze in the 2nd half, Killeavy once again applied pressure but our full back line of Cathal Rice, Emmett Mullen, Conor Graham and goal keeper Patrick Rice stood firm with our half back line of Kyle Mc Mahon, Peter Rice and Louis Winters working extremely hard to help shut down the opposition's long kick out stratgecy to great effect.
Once again the lads dug deep when moving forward producing well worked team scores which saw Ronan Martin and Scott Harris get onto the score sheet.
The introduction of Olive Kissward, Kieran ONeill, Shane Cumiskey and Jake Mooney ensured the victory on a score line of 5-11 to 2-07.
