Our senior men played Granemore at home today in what was a key encounter for both teams. A win for the visitors was key to keep them in the running for league silverware while a win for the home team would help keep their current position secure at the top of the table.
The game wasn't for the faint hearted and it was the Dromintee men that secured the first and their only score of the 1st quarter with a well taken goal from the boot of Ryan Hughes early in the 1st period. Granemore responded with 4 unanswered points before the first water break with teams going in 1-00 to 0-04.
Over the course of the 2nd quarter Dromintee played some of their best football with fast moving ball frustrating the opposition with Dromintee going in at half time 2-05 to 0-06 ahead.
At the start of the 2nd half Granemore took a strong foot hold on the game with the conversion of 5 unanswered points however with only seconds left on the clock before the end of the 3rd quarter Dromintee broke into the opposition's half of the field where half back Ronan Quinn finished the ball to the back of the net. While this was Dromintees only score of this period it was a well worked team effort leaving Dromintee 3-05 to 0-11 ahead going into the final quarter.
The final quarter saw both teams make mistakes and this can only be contributed to fatigue such was the work rate both teams put in over the course of the hour. On the final whistle Dromintee finished 3-07 to 0-14 ahead.
