Dromintee U16:5’s 3:25 v Carrickcruppen U16:5’s 2:4
Dromintee U16.5’s had the honour of playing the first competitive match in 2021 today when they took on Carrickcruppen U16:5’s.
With beautiful sunshine, our home side played some excellent football and were deserving winners of the contest.
The first quarter was competitive and the final quarter equally but at that stage had built up an unassailable lead and never looked in danger.
Dromintee U16:5’s play in Division 2 league while Cruppen in Division 3 so while the result was never in doubt, it did ease the girls back into something resembling normality given that it’s now 1st May and only playing their first game since last year.
Dromintee played excellent football throughout and their strong running and support play was a feature of the game.
There was a good spread of scores across the team with some fine scores taken by the home team forwards.
Sarah Graham finished the game with 10 points total, while Grainne O’Rourke with 0:6 and Rose Boden with 0:5, securing the victory.
We also took three goals scored by Niamh Mc Cormack, Nicola Campbell and Aoibh O’Neill who worked tirelessly throughout the game, impressive with her direct and strong running style.
All in all a good way to start the season but we know there will be stronger games ahead. Carrickcruppen never took their eye off the game, playing well at the start and end of the game and they will certainly improve for the future.
We thank Carrickcruppen for the game today and wish them well for the season ahead. Thanks also to Declan Carolan who officiated at the game this morning.
