Dromintee u14 girls brought their league campaign to a close for this season with a comfortable 9-10 to 2-10 victory over neighbours Mullaghbawn.
On a wet pitch after another day of rain, it was the Mullaghbawn girls who came out of the blocks fastest to establish a six point lead early on before Skye Muldoon got the home side off the mark with a well taken goal on the break.
A sleepy opening quarter meant that the Dromintee were lucky to reach the first water break trailing only by 1-00 to 1-04. But a more competitive second quarter brought the girls back into the contest by half time. However, Mullaghbawn still led by three points.
Strong defending by Sadhbh McKeever and Aoife Murphy in the centre of defence kept the home team in touch during an opening half when possession was hard to hold.
A different Dromintee team emerged in the second half. Alanna O’Neill, Caoimhe Byrne and Grainne O’Rourke played some excellent attacking football, playing off each other to create lots of scoring chances.
The girls led by eleven at the second water break on their way to a strong finish and a second league victory out of four.
With the league programme over our u14 girls look towards the championship to finish their season strongly. That resumes on Monday with a home semi-final against Clan na Gael on Monday at 6.45pm.
