Dromintee u13s had another successful trip on the road this evening with a five point win over regular opponents Ballyholland in Newry.
With strong winds influencing the play throughout, handling was challenging and scoring opportunities difficult to create. The visitors started strongly and controlled possession well against a well organised home team. Ballyholland defended diligently throughout and Dromintee had to work very hard to carve out shooting opportunities.
Patience and no little amount of smart play nudged the South Armagh men ahead with a crucial goal coming from Ronan Martin just before half time after a sweeping move the length of the field.
The second half followed similar patterns but the Down men stepped up their attacking threat to close the gap but Dromintee continued to play fluent football to run out five point victors on a scoreline of 1-03 to 1-08.
Charlie Fox and Peter Rice led a strong defensive effort and the full forward line of Oisin Gallagher, Neil Evans and Ronan Martin carried a heavy threat throughout. James McBennett and Odhran McCann won the lion’s share of possession but the highlight of the game was the playmaking skills of Michael O’Neill.
