Played in conditions more customary to the depths of winter, Keady provided a timely test of all aspects of the game for our travelling u13 team.
With the aid of a strong breeze and driving rain at their back in the opening period, the hosts and the conditions made football very difficult for the visitors. Although dominating possession, the Dromintee lads struggled to plot a path through what was a well populated home defence.
Dromintee finally began to settle from the flurry created by Keady as half time approached and managed to find the posts more consistently to squeeze out a 0-08 to 0-01 lead as the half time break approached. With the elements to play into after the break, a significant challenge lay ahead.
However, Dromintee responded brilliantly at the start of the second half to keep a strangle hold on possession around midfield and created scoring opportunities through more deliberate and accurate attacks.
As Keady pushed forward to attempt to close the gap, Dromintee defended manfully in what was a very physical contest in slippery conditions. Turning ball over regularly, counter attacking scores kept the scoreboard ticking over and the contest was all but over by the final water break.
Captain on the night (and birthday boy) Odhran Carnegie led a strong defensive performance throughout. On an evening when our forwards got little space, the majority of scores came from our hard running middle third players.
