This evening Dromintee U16 girls firmly established themselves as a team going places when they easily disposed of the Shane O’Neill challenge by 6:14 to 1:4 a twenty five point winning margin. The Dromintee girls took great satisfaction in the result as they have been on the wrong side of reversals by the Camlough outfit over the recent years. Playing an aggressive strong running game Dromintee firmly took the game to Shane’s from the off when playing against the hill and the elements they established an early lead that they never relinquished. Rose Boden had a major mark on the score board with two quick fire goals and ended the game with 4:1 to her tally. Strong & disciplined in the tackle Dromintee never let Shane’s outfit settle and went in at halftime 4:3 to 1:3 ahead. If the first half was Rose Boden’s half then second half belonged to young Nicola Campbell who really excelled with 0:5 from play. Aoibh O’Neill shot two major scores to ensure their was no coming back for the visitors. Seven different players made the scoreboard & it was notable that second half substitutes Anna Lindsay & Katie O’Rourke each got on the scoreboard.
Games are always won by workrate which Dromintee had in abundance , disciplined in the tackle, winning your own ball and never allowing your opponent to winthe ball uncontested. Dromintee defence began with their forward line showing great tackling often breaking down attacks by tracking the runner & being disciplined in the tackle. There were great performances all over the pitch from goalkeeper to our full forward line but the performances of two of our younger members deserve special praise notably Grainne O’Rourke & Nicola Campbell who played excellently all evening and the win has ensured that there will be a real buzz at training this Thursday as they take on Carrickcruppen next Monday evening.
