Dromintee u14 girls opened their league campaign with a 7-13 to 5-03 home win against a strong Shane O'Neills team in a game that was played in perfect conditions.
The foundations for victory were set with a fast start from the girls that resulted in a Nicola Campbell hat-trick of goals in the opening fifteen minutes. The team scored freely to lead 5-04 to 2-03 at half time.
The opening exchanges of the second half saw the Camlough club close the gap with three goals before the water break. A redoubling of efforts from Dromintee meant that the visitors wouldn't score again in the final quarter.
Emma Murtagh and Kerry Phillips shared the netminding duties expertly throughout the game and a determined defensive display was led brilliantly by Aoibhe Hoey and Aoife Murphy.
Sarah Conlon and captain on the night Gráinne O'Rourke ran a marathon for their team to support both defence and attack from midfield and created and repelled attacks in equal measure.
Although Nicola Campbell and Skye Muldoon gave the scoreboard operator the most work, all of the forward line contributed well to create opportunities.
Special mention to the u12 quintet who featured and excelled on the night - Alanna O'Neill, Grace Gallagher, Eimear Murphy, Caoimhe Byrne and Pauline Toale.
