Dromintee U15 boys 4:6 (18) v St. Patrick’s Cullyhanna 3:9 (18)
This pre season friendly ended all square at the Cullyhanna venue this evening in a most enjoyable contest. Both teams had periods of dominance and used the occasion to experiment with bringing on all the players for game team. Dromintee fielded six U13’s to help bolster their team and all acquitted themselves well and are in contention for starting positions when they play Killeavy U15 in their first game of season this Saturday coming. Game was played over three 20min periods allowing everyone of the panel of 22 game time. It is heartening to know that the future of underage football is bright in the Dromintee club as all U13 panelist’s really took their opportunity this evening to impress and will provide a good support base for the older lads. The first third Dromintee played against the hill and found gaining possession difficult and it was Cullyhanna who lead 1:3 to 0:1. The introduction of some fresh legs provided a necessary boost and the visitors soon took the lead and tagged on 3:3 in a purple patch with goals from Oisin O’Neill, Ruben O’Rourke and Aidan Byrne to put the team into a good lead with Cullyhanna only registering a single point. As the team turned around for the third twenty minute period Dromintee led by 5 points. The final third saw a good penalty taken by young Diarmuid O’Rourke keep the visitors in front but some good football by the home side meant they levelled with time virtually up. An encouraging draw by this young team who acquitted themselves very well in a competitive challenge match.
